The Westshore Regional Community Emergency
Response Team (WSC) serves the communities of
Bay Village, Fairview Park, Lakewood, North
Olmsted, Rocky River and Westlake. As part of the
national CERT program and sponsored by the
Westshore Council of Governments, this volunteer-
based organization supports its cities’ safety
forces and first responders to help prevent,
prepare for, mitigate, and respond to emergencies
and disasters.
The regional volunteer program:
•
Provides free disaster education and emergency preparedness training
•
Develops a system for volunteer response to community needs in public emergencies
•
Assists in establishing and operating emergency shelters
•
Provides assistance to local safety forces under direction of their fire or police departments.
Applying classroom and hands-on exercise
training, CERT members can assist their family,
neighbors, and coworkers following a disaster when
professional responders are not immediately available.
CERT members also support their emergency response
agencies by taking an active role in community
preparedness projects and events.
